The fire is a symbol that he is going to go to hell

I like how Cara related the symbolism of the fire as the narrator burning in hell back to the cats name being Pluto, the God of the underworld.

Agreed with the fact that this man would burn in hell. Also thought that it was ironic that he said he was confessing his sins in the beginning. And the rest of the story refers to the underworld.

I believe that the fire could be karma, like Casey said, and that the cat could be trying to warn him that revenge is coming for what he has done.

The narrator doesn't take any responsibility for his actions and he tries to blame the cat for all of the tragedies that have happened.

I didn't think about the idea that maybe the narrator was drunk the whole time and we as readers don't know what's real and what's a dream. Good point.

Still don't understand why he would get a black cat if he believed that they were witches in disguise.

By the end of the story I completely forgot about the superstition the wife had, but now it makes me think that the narrator could be describing the cat in demonic ways to show his belief in this superstition.

Maybe if he killed the second cat, another would come with a bigger spot, and eventually after killing a lot of cats, a white cat would appear?

I wonder if Pluto came back to life and was trying to make the narrator suffer to admit what he has done wrong so he'd get in trouble for what he has done instead of getting away with it all.

Could Poe possibly be giving his view on alcoholism by possibly trying to warn people about the effects alcoholism can have on people such as insanity?

There are three letters in the word cat. there are three sides of the triangle. the narrator cuts out the cats eye, there is an eye in the triangle. Illuminati confirmed!!!!

The second cat couldn't have been from his imagination because his wife saw it and loved it

This wasn't apart of his imagination because other people were able to see the cat, also.
